I Should Have Started This Sooner
Have you ever wanted to start something and never got it past the "idea stage?"
What was it?
A well-intended New Years resolution? A blog? An online course to better your skill in a hobby? A degree program? How about the courage to ask someone on a date? You ever think about buying a house instead of renting?
What stopped you?
Chances are, if you're anything like me, fear stopped your idea from becoming realized. Fear is very real and it can cripple the best of us at the worst of times; however, fear is also an excuse. What are you afraid of? For most of us, when it comes to starting something new, the biggest fear is failure.
I was always a creative person. I write, I draw, I can carve wood, and now I'm discovering my love for photography and videography. I always wanted my creativity to be recognized and that is a hard thing to do. There were things that I wanted to do and never conceptualized them because I was afraid of what other people would think. More importantly, I was afraid of what they would think if I wasn't successful at it.
My generation developed with the computer; it wasn't already there. Our parents didn't know that social media and online videos could be an actual career choice. Many of our parents stifled our creativity because that's what their parents did to them. Practicality was drilled into them and in turn, into many of us. As such, we fear the uncertainty that comes with putting ourselves out for all to see. We fear being vulnerable.
It's ok to be scared. It's ok to be vulnerable. I'm starting this and I have no intention of stopping. I'm going to be consistent and I have fellow content creators that will hold me accountable if I slip.
So, what is one thing that you wanted to start but never did? I'm taking on one of mine today. What can you start? Do it. You'll be glad you did.
